SPAM® Classic Okonomiyaki




  • 1 can SPAM® Classic, cut into cubes and fried
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cup water or dashi stock
  • 4 cups of shredded cabbage, finely chopped
  • 5 tbsp green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup corn kernels, cooked and drained
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup tempura flakes
  • 5 pcs large eggs
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 8 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 tbsp sugar (or to taste)
  • 7 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (or to taste)
  • Japanese mayonnaise
  • Dried seaweed powder, optional
  • Dried bonito flakes, optional
  • Pickled red ginger, optional


  1. In a bowl, mix together all-purpose flour and water/dashi stock. Set aside and chill for about an hour.
  2. Remove from the refrigerator and add in half of the SPAM® Classic cubes, cabbage, green onions, corn kernels, cheddar cheese, and tempura flakes. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Add eggs into the batter and mix. About 1 egg for every 1/2 cup batter.
  4. Heat a pan and bring to medium heat.
  5. Pour in half cup of batter, creating a round shape. Cook until brown and crisp and flip to cook the other side. To check doneness, insert a toothpick at the center and pull it out. Clean toothpick means it’s cooked.
  6. Transfer to a serving plate and brush with okonomiyaki sauce.
  7. Drizzle with mayonnaise and garnish with remaining SPAM® Classic cubes and preferred toppings.
